What do you get the person who has everything, or is passionate about alleviating social injustices in the world? The gift of literacy, of course! This gift will provide four new books for a library in a rural Cambodian community, giving children new knowledge and improving their literacy.
You will receive a card in the mail that explains just what your gift achieves, so the recipient will understand what a big difference they are making!
The library at Human and Hope Association is open from 2:30 pm – 5 pm on weekdays and 8 am to 11 am every Sunday. It is managed by HHA’s Education and Library Assistant who educates the students on treating the books with respect, encourages them to share the resources and assists them with their reading. Without this library, the students wouldn’t have access to new and updated information.
The students can often be found practising their Khmer and English using flashcards, reading storybooks, learning words from the dictionary, completing puzzles or playing their favourite games, chess and Connect 4. On Fridays, they are provided with colouring in pages and pencils so they can colour to their heart’s desire.
The library also doubles as a classroom, providing a fun, interactive learning environment for staff workshops every Sunday.
